2025 Annual Review
reflecting forwards
An Annual Review Template for Curious Humans
👨💻 ~ How To Use This Template
⏳Two Approaches
It is obviously entirely up to you how much time you choose to spend on this review process.
- The First Timer // For those of you who are approaching this tentatively for the first time I would recommend setting aside a minimum of 90 minutes—roughly 3x 30-minute chunks of time for each of the sections. Simply set a timer and answer the questions + prompts that you feel most drawn to (delete the rest once you’re done)
- The Deep Dive // And for those who have the time and inclination to do a deeper dive, I like to set aside 3x 3-hour chunks (ideally on separate days) but it could of course be shorter or longer depending on how deep you get pulled in!
Given that there are 365 days next year, spending <1% of this time getting clear on your direction seems like time very well spent.
Day 1. 🕵️♂️ Gather introspective material
I like to cast the net far and wide to saturate my subconscious with memories and reflections from the year.
If you keep a journal or write monthly reviews this is obviously an excellent first port of call. But don’t stop there, looking at your Instagram stories archive + Twitter feed may also contain forgotten nuggets.
Perusing your calendar month by month to jog your memory of milestones, as might your Spotify most played songs or Goodreads profile.
Pay particular attention to emotional salience of these memories, i.e. moments that felt like highs + lows (the failures and struggles usually contain the real nuggets of gold)
Day 2. 🤔 Reflecting Backwards on 2025
Using the questions outlined in the template below as prompts and jumping off points for your own exploration.
I strongly encourage you to add your own flavor of questions based on the roles that you operate from—for example if you have your own business then this will likely deserve it’s own category, likewise if you are a parent or partner. Remember that this process is designed to be an exploration, if you do it well you will notice yourself writing something that you didn’t realise you knew.
Day 3. 🔭 Reflecting Forwards to 2026
This is the fun part. The questions below are designed to reveal clarity over your deepest intentions + desires for the year. 2020 was a big year for many of us.
I also recommend theming each year (see Dr. Jason Fox for more on this). For example, my word for 2022 was ‘Home’. These words may be clear from the outset or they may emerge from your reflections.
You might surprise yourself at how your values have shifted or even the vision of your imagined future.
The questions are designed to provoke and challenge you, if any cause discomfort to answer, excellent — lean into it, there’s likely something juicy on the other side 😅
📝 ~ The Case for Writing an Annual Review
I’ve been writing annual reviews for 9 years now, and it has been one of the most rewarding exercises of my life.
Here are some of the benefits I gain from the process:
Clarity on next year’s intentions, clear ‘creative constraints’, refreshed and re-aligned my values, mined the previous year’s challenges for insights, become aware of broader themes and patterns as well as allowing myself to celebrate the highlights.
Upon completing this seemingly self-indulgent exercise I feel a greater sense of coherence and meaning for the projects I commit to and the underlying values that drive the intention.
More importantly, for those of you who experienced struggles in 2024 (i.e. most of humanity) this is a chance to derive meaning and insights from those experience.
Above all, I encourage you to use this as a starting point for yourself.
Steal what’s useful, delete what isn’t.
Add your own questions, remix it any way you want and really make it feel like your own. This template is designed to be more provocative than prescriptive.
Ultimately the questions that you choose and the format of your annual review will evolve into a deeply personal mirror and reflection of what matters most in your life.
🤴 ~ A Primer on the ‘Archetype’ Framework
What are Archetypes?
Archetypes are essentially universal genetic human patterns that impact various aspects of our personality and shape how we show up in the world. When we reflect on ourselves and how this past year unfolded I find these four archetypes to be extremely useful lenses to view all aspects of our lives.
Which Archetypes are we using?
I was gifted the book ‘King, Warrior, Magician, Lover’ and it has had a profound impact on my life so this year I’m experimenting with using this framing to write my annual review—building on reflection prompts from previous years and integrating them into this framework.
Although I would definitely recommend obtaining a copy of the book (link), there is no need to have read it to get the gist of what they represent. Below I’ve summarised each of the four archetypes in my own words.
Note on gender: although the book was originally intended to describe mature masculine archetypes, they absolutely apply to both genders (read more here)

👑 KING // QUEEN
The King/Queen or ‘Sovereign’ archetype is the aspect that we most associate with leadership—of ourselves, our families, our teams—it is the part that holds our own vision for life and connects to a deeper sense of purpose.
This aspect is where our most important decisions (hopefully) come from—from where to live, who to be in relationship with, what to dedicate our careers to.
In a mature expression the Sovereign is a ‘heart-centred’ leader who holds responsibility for guarding the kingdom (your family, business etc.), speaking truth and not looking away from potentially uncomfortable situations or circumstances.
In the context of this annual review your King/Queen is the one who likely drew you to commit time to this process and cares that your upcoming year unfolds in a way that aligns with your highest values and what matters most to you.
⚔️ WARRIOR // HUNTRESS
Your Warrior/Huntress represents the part of you that takes action out in the world, the aspect that gets sh*t done and sets clear boundaries.
As you might imagine he/she also holds our sense of power, commitment and agency in the world.
In the context of this annual review the warrior reflections will look at ways in which we did or didn’t follow through with our commitments to self and others as well as how we fared at setting effective boundaries. The warrior in you speaks truth even when it might rock the boat.
The negative connotations we might associate with this arise when the ‘warrior’ is disconnected from its King and Lover aspects, which give rise to ‘shadow warrior’ qualities (for more on this listen to my conversation with Erick Godsey)
🧙♀️ MAGICIAN // CRONE
Your magician/crone within us is our internal problem solver and creative genius. For many of us left-brained + analytical types the magician archetype is alive and kicking.
This aspect loves an intellectual challenge to dive into and is the force behind business or empire building (think Elon Musk or Steve Jobs as expressions of this magician energy).
Challenges arise when this aspect dominates and leaves us disconnected from our emotions (the Lover) and our purpose (the King/Queen).
The magician also came up with strategies to keep us safe when we were growing up but many of these no longer serve us in adulthood (for example creating perfectionist tendencies or fear of putting our creative work out into the world).
❤️ LOVER // LOVER
Your lover represents the moments of awe and rapture, when the ineffable beauty of an experience—watching a sunset, being with an intimate partner or listening to music—sinks into our hearts and cracks us open to a deeper experience of life.
The lover is the poetic imagination that is alive in us all, it is our source of compassion and empathy for others and its greatest desire is to transcend into one-ness—whether through peak flow states, being moved through great works of art or having our hearts blasted open through moments of deep intimacy.
👪 TRIBE // TRIBE
I have added ‘TRIBE’ to this review because although it’s not an archetype, in the context of reflecting on one’s life our relationships and community play a vital role (especially in times of COVID when this is even more challenging than it once was) that I felt it was essential to include this as a 5th section.
NB. If this mythical language is off-putting for you, there is no need to adopt it and the prompts will make just as much sense without this framework.
📚 ~ Ten Curated Examples of Epic Annual Reviews
Steve Schlaf // This is one of my personal favourites, besides the prolific use of emojis, there are some powerful questions in here such as ‘what do I know to be true that I’m not acting on’, or ‘what permission do I need to give myself’.
Buster Benson // For the last 14 years Buster has written highly introspective and thoughtful reviews, I particularly appreciate his themes e.g. love the struggle and the interactive ‘life in weeks’ visualisation.
Anne-Laure Le Cunff // I really appreciated her parting words: “If there’s something this year has taught me, it’s to appreciate the detours; to enjoy the weird pit stops; to collect unexpected memories. I don’t know what next year will look like, but I’m excited to keep on exploring the labyrinth that is life.”
Taylor Pearson // Not an annual review but a highly pragmatic and detailed approach to ‘anti-fragile’ planning. A must-read for type-A, ambitious left-brainers.
Dr. Jason Fox // This is more of a mini-book that he playfully names ‘The Quest of Becoming’—I would definitely recommend reading the post on ‘pick a word’ as a way of theming your upcoming year.
James Clear // One of the more prolific + concise writer’s out there—James approach to writing his review is refreshingly minimalist. He just answers three questions: 1. What went well this year? 2. What didn’t go so well this year? 3. What did I learn?
Steph Smith // A relentless writer + maker, Steph’s approach will appeal to anyone who enjoys tracking + hitting milestones in all areas of life. Her practice of sharing the lessons behind the goals is insightful.
Chris Guillebeau // Spreadsheet lovers, this one is for you—whilst I’ve personally moved away from the rather intense goal-setting approach, it definitely resonates for some folks and is effective for taking abstract ideas and making them happen!
Tiago Forte // One of the most inspiring and prolific creators out there, Tiago is a genuinely deep thinker and I especially appreciate his practice of identifying ‘open questions’ for the following year. E.g. How can I have as much fun as possible, as much of the time as possible, without feeling guilty about it?
Paul Millerd // Paul ‘I have no goals’ Millerd as I sometimes like to call him used Roam for his review. Some questions I appreciated were: ‘What should you double down next year?’ ‘What kinds of work do you want to stop doing?’ And ‘What kind of goals for the next year can you commit to even though they might scare you?’

📆 2 ~ Reflecting Back on 2025
THEME FOR THE YEAR: [__________]
👑 KING // QUEEN
✊ How aligned was how I spent my time with my core values?
⚡
Or phrased another way: where/when did I fall short or lose sight of the big picture?
Core values: family, friends, curiosity, trolling
Quite aligned I would say. 8/10. Family, friends, curiosity were all mostly how I spent my time, outside of introspective spirals. Trolling maybe a bit less than I would want. I would love to knit these values together into a community so they are self-reinforcing. But still I aligned my time with them.
🤼 Which moments or situations did I embrace discomfort?
⚡
Although we usually only realise in retrospect, often it’s our challenges that act as catalysts for personal growth and insight. Which moments from the year stood out as particularly salient or character building and what were some of the key insights that emerged?
Challenges:
- Moving back to LA when I didn’t really want to
- Complicated pregnancy/birth
- Becoming a parent
- Talking w mom when things came up in first month
- Tons of healthcare/finances admin stuff
- Finding time to work on things w baby schedule etc. Tinkering w my routine to find something that works well.
Key insights? I dunno… I think I covered this in my 10/1/2024 and What Would Rami Do? posts tbh. I guess just a general sense of confidence in myself that I can handle shit. I mean I knew it already, but it’s good to validate it.
Also I will say this weekly review/iterative approach to how to find time to do things has been really cool to see in action. I really got the sense that I forgot all the micro experiments and adjustments that got me to where I am today, and when I look up my approach is not what I would have expected. Form-context fit achieved in an iterative way. A felt sense of compounding. I can feel the power of applying this way of thinking to all parts of my life now.
👨⚕️ How well did I take care of myself and my health?
⚡
Do you feel exhausted or burned out from the year? How do you feel about your current levels of physical and mental health? What are you proud of in terms of taking care of yourself?
I feel great! Ha. Knee injury is annoyingly still there but it is obviously getting better and I see the path to that happening. It will still take a lot of work to do that while simultaneously losing weight, but I feel I can do it. And outside of that I think I did a great job generally taking care of my health this year, despite having a baby. 9/10.
Mental health also feels quite good generally. I feel excited and looking forward to what’s to come!
⚔️ WARRIOR // HUNTRESS
💪 Which commitments did I follow through with?
⚡
Look back to any intentions/goals that you set in January 2025. How did you fare?
Errr. No real goals or intentions? Idk. Some troll goals that I did a few of. I dunno.
Other commitments wise… I think I did a 10/10 job when commitments involved other ppl (education book club, etc). It doesn’t feel useful to rate how well I did on commitments to “myself”. I don’t think it’s bad to leave projects hanging when the energy doesn’t feel right anymore. Like I feel bad about it in the moment oh I’m not a committed person why don’t I finish things. But my main commitment right now is to do what feels right and make a point of not managing my life. That supersedes.
🤷♂️ Where did I struggle to stand my ground?
⚡
Were there situations when I struggled to speak my truth or did I spend time with people or projects that drained my energy?
Hrmm. Didn’t spend time with people/projects that drained my energy. I just stopped those. Re: struggling to speak my truth, I would say some of the usual suspects:
- Ekansh and how he’s living his life opinions etc, even when it affects me/fam
- Tho I did tell him to stop smoking weed when he was here
- But other things I def held my tongue unnecessarily
- Bub + her parents/LA situation
- I did bring up most of what I wanted to say here actually
- Mom? Idk not really too much here this yr
🙅♂️ What boundaries did I set with myself and others?
⚡
Often our stress + challenges arise when we fail to clearly communicate our own needs and priorities with others (often out of fear of missing out or letting someone down).
🧙♀️ MAGICIAN // CRONE
🏆 What did I feel proud of accomplishing?
⚡
Which projects did I see through to completion this year?
- Education Anti Book Club
- Irene book club
- Pappi calls
- Baby shower lol
- Learning Hindi reading
- Hosting dinner parties
- Reading the Asimov catalog and the Power Broker
- 1k words/day for 40 days
- IRL for 3 months!
- Getting an Anki practice up and running
- Figuring out schedule with weekly review & tinkering
- Building tennis app, even tho I didn’t finish
- December Aliveline, even tho I didn’t finish
👨🎓 What did I learn or what skills did I develop?
⚡
What courses did I take? What areas did I improve my skillset? What were some of the best books that I read?
- More confident reaching out to ppl/meeting new ppl on the internet
- How to read Hindi
- How to set up an iterative weekly review w experiments etc
- Various bits and bobs around deep learning, info theory, neuro, education
- AI iOS coding & some vision/ML stuff – to build tennis app
- Really understood how little can be needed for me for peace and joy - specifically that one day where I did nothing for like 4 hours in the morning then went on the greatest walk ever looking at trees on green st
- Books
- Power Broker
- Nurture Assumption
- Stories of your life and others
- Remains of the Day
- Asimov Robot series
❓ Which questions deeply fascinated me?
⚡
When the path isn’t totally clear, our curiosity is often the most accurate guide to bringing out our gifts and talents. Learning to sit in ambiguity and living our way into the answers of these questions is a powerful way to bring our Magician energy into the world.
I can describe my primary interests in two main questions now!
- How do we learn?
- Intelligence, machine learning, the brain, child development, etc
- How might we learn?
- Education, tutoring, spaced repetition, culture, etc
Other questions that interested me:
- How do you achieve greatness?
- How do you do great science?
- How do you enter and protect the creative state?
- How does modern finance/economics work?
- Can we apply real-time feedback to tennis instruction?
- How do I build local community?
- How can I memorialize my grandfather’s very interesting life?
❤️ LOVER // LOVER
🌱 Which relationships nourished me this year?
⚡
What were some memorable moments of connection and who were the people who you went deeper with? How well did you give and receive love?
Bub #1
Rami #2
Mom #3
Others:
- Cassie/Charles
- Ekansh
- Feel I went deeper with a variety of friends as well: Aziz, Aish, Irene, David, Ashwin, Gautam
💔 Which relationships did I struggle with?
⚡
Relationships are always the biggest mirror to our shadow qualities. If there were certain people or circumstances that triggered you in some way — what could be mined from this? How could you set clearer boundaries or aim to show up with greater compassion and equanimity next year?
Bub:
- Couple things w her parents. But I think I said what I wanted here mostly
- I think I can do better with prioritizing her getting some more alone/personal time, eg fully watching Ramsters during his wake windows instead of making her do it. In general I think I can do better thinking more about her mental state. Wife #1, kid #2.
Mom:
- I think I said something when I got triggered here. The month in Nova was surprisingly fun once we got into a rhythm after the first few days.
Ekansh:
- Hmm I wouldn’t say I was triggered necessarily. More that I can see how he doesn’t treat Mom is ideal / once in a while how he treats me is also not ideal. And I don’t say too much about that. I would like to speak up more.
☄️ Which moments left me feeling a sense of awe and wonder?
⚡
What were some moments that opened my heart to a deeper sense of connection with myself, others or the world?
Pretty much everything with Ramsters. The awe and wonder I felt on days after he was born, and still do, is mind boggling. Just looking at pictures/videos of him in the morning before he wakes up I miss him and feel awe/wonder.
👪 TRIBE // TRIBE
🤝 The most important thing I did for someone else?
⚡
In what ways did you give back? How far did your generosity extend this year? What sticks out as being something you’re deeply proud of?
I think I did a really good job supporting bub through pregnancy, birth, and after.
I am deeply proud of how I does what needs done when it needs done.
I don’t feel that I was very generous outside of my family this year. But that is OK. It was a big year for my family.
👐 What were some ways that I gave to others?
⚡
In what ways was I of service to others who I care about or did I give myself to a mission that felt important to me?
- Obviously bub/ramsters
- Figured out parents finances & retirement
- Pappi facetimes – that was a nice thing I did, and it felt good
- I think I did a decent job of sharing things I’m interested in with ppl
- Peted with showing many ppl around NYC, esp bub dad photo stuff
- Special visit to Latha aunty house w Ramsters
🙏 Who could I write a short note of gratitude to?
⚡
Or is there anything that I need to do or say to someone in order to feel complete with this year?
Thanks to bub for extreme peting
🔭 3 ~ Reflecting Forwards to 2026
THEME FOR THE NEXT YEAR: [CONJURE]
Vibes: making magic real
Words:
- Alchemy
- Conjure
- Incant
- Evoke
- Catalyze
- Magic
- Enchantment
- Whimsy
- Trolling
👑 KING // QUEEN
🙌 What are my core values for 2025?
⚡
Choose no more than five. E.g. last year mine were COURAGE, CURIOSITY, VITALITY, CONNECTION & CONTRIBUTION.
4 family values + one:
- Curiosity
- Bravery
- Integrity
- Trolling/impishness
- Community
⚡️ What do I feel most pulled towards this year?
⚡
What is your deepest desire for this year? What feels most exciting and alive for you when you imagine the year unfolding? You can even write this in the form of a letter that expresses this aliveness of your intention, be clear on the impulse and the feeling behind it. Your task this year is not achieving a pre-decided goal (you don’t know how the year will unfold) but to commit to guarding the spark of your aspiration but let go of any attachments to how it happens. Invest in the impulse and allow the mind to get out of the way. You can’t fail if your primary intention is to nourish this flame. Your work this year is to create the conditions for this match flame to become a blazing fire.
My deepest desire for this year is working on a really fun and interesting project with awesome collaborators
my deepest desire is for my life to feel enchanted and magical almost all the time
🙏 What actions would I include on my ‘integrity list’?
⚡
An integrity list includes the things you’ve been putting off of days/months/years—e.g. reconnecting with a friend you’ve fallen out with, apologising to a family member, taking steps to publish the novel you’ve written etc.
😨 What guise will my ‘Resistance’ most likely take?
⚡
In other words where am I most likely to get side-tracked or trip up on staying true to my intentions? (For more on the ‘Resistance’ read Steven Pressfield’s excellent ‘The War of Art’)
- Overly checking/optimizing finances due to money fears
- Working on random things (and not completing them) instead of some kind of more focused longer-term committed project
- I know I tend to get pulled into things I get excited about – don’t really say “No” enough I suspect
💫 Which questions are my intuition pointing me towards?
⚡
It’s okay if you haven’t ‘figured it out yet’ (none of us have!) all you need to be clear on is the direction that your deepest curiosity is pointing you towards. So with that in mind what question(s) would you like to explore and dig into this year? Or phrased another way, what could you commit to that would feel as if you were embarking on a Grand Adventure this year? For example, Tim Ferriss asked ‘What if I created my own real-world MBA?’ which led to the Tools of Titans project.
What if I created my own real-world PhD?
What if I took my hobbies and side projects seriously? What if I raised the stakes (while still keeping a playful attitude & not having attachment to outcomes)? How do you raise the stakes without falling into a “seriousness” trap?
💭 Words of advice from my ‘Future Self’
⚡
This is a powerful exercise—best written after sitting with the question in silence for some time. Really visualize yourself in your final days. See the hand of your older and wiser self holding yours and from that place of deep intuition write down the words that he would want to share with you.
You never had much control anyways.
What matters is the people.
You’ll cherish how much love you gave.
Thank you for prioritizing time with our kids this much. Finding your passion and focusing on something feels huge right now but no matter what you work on you will still remember your kids growing up as the most important part of this time in your life. Keep that in mind.
You had a privileged life but the initial conditions don’t matter in the long run. Keep serving others.
⚔️ WARRIOR // HUNTRESS
🛠️ What creative constraints can I set this year?
⚡
This is an INCREDIBLY helpful question to ask especially for those of you with a buffet of ideas and options ahead. For example, what questions might you ask before beginning a new project or criteria to set for new commitments.
Questions to ask before beginning a new project/commitment:
- Does this feel magical?
- Am I willing to sacrifice some time with Rami to work on this?
- Will this lead to collaborations with people smarter than me, with people I want to become more like in some way?
- Does this serve others?
- Does it require courage?
🙅♂️ This year I will protect time for myself when
⚡
If you imagine that 2025 is like a jar—it’s important to put the big rocks in there first (i.e. a trip in nature, book writing etc.) and then the sand (smaller things) will fit in around those. If you’re not diligent at saying ‘no’ then we’ll never get around to the big things that matter most to us.
Big rocks this year?
- IRL, Ramsters rituals
- Building a community in pasadena
- Trip in nature
- Research
⛰️ What feels both scary + exciting?
⚡
Another way of phrasing this is to ponder the question: ‘What would I spend my time on even if I knew that it would fail?’ In other words, how can you spend your time in such a way that regardless of what it leads to would bring you fulfillment?
- Neuro research
- Tennis app
- Alivelines
- Just learning cool shit without an instrumental objective
🎁 What might be a truly radical act this year?
⚡
If you’ve been considering making a radical change in your life, now is the time to do it. How can you find your ‘edge’? Maybe it’s proposing to the love of your life, embarking on a new business venture, moving countries, selling all the shit you no longer need—my friend Chris has curated many examples of these radical ‘quests’ (e.g. A woman who cooked a meal from every country in the world) that may provide inspiration for those of you dreaming big.
- Declare I am going to understand the C Elegans brain
- Start a school
- Start a physical third space à la SF Commons
- Looong road trip
🧙♀️ MAGICIAN // CRONE
📚 What skills or knowledge do I feel most inspired to learn?
⚡
Don’t hold back with your imagination and get specific! Are there courses you wish to enroll in? What does good look like?
- So much stuff… Neuronal dynamics, improv classes, vocal lessons, nonlinear dynamics, tennis, money and banking, math academy
🔥 What project do I feel most excited to fully commit to?
⚡
Do you feel exhausted or burned out from the year? How do you feel about your current levels of physical and mental health? What are you proud of in terms of taking care of yourself?
- Lil physically annoyed with this knee. But overall diet + lifting going well!
- Mentally I don’t feel like I am exhausted enough on a daily basis. Rarely feel mentally tired which is boring
🛠️ Where can I build systems that free me to focus on what matters most?
⚡
Great examples of this are building a Second Brain, doing $10k/hour work and hiring a personal assistant.
Any admin stuff that could go here? Hm don’t think so, finances are pretty automated - I can check them way less often I just don’t. Healthcare maybe? But it should be way simpler moving fwd
🧟♂️ How might I explore my inner-world + confront my own shadow?
⚡
Mature ‘Magicians’ become the ritual elders of communities, but this requires doing the uncomfortable inner work of addressing their own shadows and alchemising traumas. There is perhaps nothing more impactful we can do with our time than engage in authentic shadow work.
I think spending a while on this with that Existential Kink book is a good idea. Highly rewarding and interesting
❤️ LOVER // LOVER
😃 What brings me most alive is…
⚡
The author Annie Dillard says: “How we spend our days, is in the end, how we spend our lives”—with this in mind, regardless of the ‘impact’ it has, what is something that you wish to spend your time on (for me this is surfing, meditating, trips in nature reading poetry etc.) Put another way: Time spent [_____] is never wasted.
- Nature
- Walks
- Learning new things, making connections
- Spending time with friends/family
- Tennis
- Reading fiction, esp with others
- Do nothing time
❤️ What are my intentions for deepening relationships?
⚡
You might ask: I will connect with loved ones in these 3 ways…
- Ramsters: keep doing what I’m doing, observe him more closely. More play dates. Montessori baby implementation
- Bub: prioritize alone time
- Mom: keep visiting Nova
- Ekansh: ask more qs
🌱 What experiences would nourish me this year?
⚡
Not what do you ‘need’ or ‘should’ do, but what might fill up your creative spirit and inspire you? What will give you more energy to show up fully in all areas of life?
- Nature trip
- Consistent play outside time
- Deep conversations of all sorts
👪 TRIBE // TRIBE
🙋♂️ Who will hold me accountable and challenge me?
⚡
Drawing on Adam Grant’s notion of a ‘challenge network’, write down 3-5 people who you can trust to give you potentially harsh criticism (from a place of love) that will show you your blind spots and enable you to grow.
Hmmmm
- Bub
- Edward
Idk I can’t think of other ppl really. Maybe Suraj/Ashwin? I would love more here haha.
Maybe I can follow the Kevin Kelly thing here and ask more ppl for advice to get more partners.
🧙♂️ Who would I like in my league of mentors/advisors?
⚡
Whether it’s a formal coaching relationship or a few people who you know you can learn from and grow into a better human. Add their names here.
- Andy Matuschak
- Bret Victor
- Michael Nielsen
- Chenchen Li
- Ashwin
- Joe Hudson
- VGR
- Paul Middlebrooks
- Connor Brennan
🙋♂️ Who will be my pillars during rough times?
⚡
Who can you rely on to be there for you if the sh*t hits the fan next year? If you’re struggling to answer this question then consider starting your own DIY ‘peer support circle’
🤝 Who could I offer specific help to?
⚡
What do others sometimes reach out to ask for your support with? How might you make this easier to do? E.g. publicly share a calendly link for people to book time with you or make a note of some people you know you could be helpful to.
- I’ve done reference calls
- Discussing career/work style stuff w friends
- Health insurance lol
- Finances
- Feedback on product or ideas
- Tennis lol
- Having a kid?
Why do I know I could be helpful to?
- Cassie/Charles and Elyse/Colin - kid stuff
- Parents - retirement
- Bub - creating space for her baking biz
🙏 Who would I want to thank at the end of the year?
⚡
Or who would you like to collaborate with on a project? (This question is inspired by one of Jana Marie’s ‘Sunday Letters’)
“I want to structure my life in such a way as to have a long list of acknowledgements for every achievement, regardless of how big or small it is. I want to get to the top of every mountain and find myself surrounded by a large group of people, each of whom has in some way contributed to—and can share in—the accomplishment, each of whom I couldn’t have gotten to that peak without.”
I have an Anki question with exactly this. Do it!
- Hugh Clarke, some tennis data analysis project (could involve ekansh too)
- Andy Matuschak, a local LLM tutor from how might we learn
- Fractal ppl, building a fractal in Pasadena
- Steven Strogatz, nonlinear dynamical systems lens of viewing deep learning
- Perry Mehrling, understanding something in the money view with chaos theory
- Tishby lab, how IB explains degradation
- Chenchen Li, simulating the worm
- Michael Nielsen, something in spaced repetition and math
- Connor Brennan, extending ADMM to other works
