Now
This is a page for how I approach living life, with my ever-evolving self as audience
Orienting lens
How I choose what to work on is a combination of deathbed regret-minimization & a Long Now style view. As a result, I mostly try to spend my time on things that will endure for decades & ideally well beyond my life. These items so far are:
- My marriage
- My kids & their education (plan to start a microschool for my + friends kids)
- My brain – reading, writing, thinking, externalized via this site
- My friendships
The above all start with “my” and are quite self-forward, besides perhaps my kids’ education. I don’t feel that I yet have a satisfactory Long Now project.
I have found it useful to concretely instantiate a Long Now view as the universe/Nature/God/Dao, as there is a natural merging between extreme long-term thinking & infinite entities. A question I like to play with is – what does the Dao want me to do?
My quest(ion)
I pursue my interests. I have noticed that the thread running through all my interests is the question
How does a mind develop?
I have been approaching this from a variety of angles, including neuroscience, cognitive psychology, education, culture, child development, and philosophy.
